Days 25 & 26- Bonus #2, The Washington DC Temple

Leonard and I went in the evening to serve in the newly renovated Washington DC temple.  I love serving in all of the temples, but this one is something special!

We had to go back the next morning before we left town to take the kids to see it.

They thought it was a castle!

I love Jesus Christ so much!  And I hope all of my family will too all throughout their lives!

I hope Ali will be a Future Missionary someday!

Day 25- Bonus #1, Rainbow Ice Cream

It was so hot out, we were thrilled to find this ice cream truck!  We all chose a different flavor/color.

Macy- blueberry

Ali- strawberry

Hiram- banana

Teague- mango

Gavin- mint chocolate

Me- vanilla

Leonard- chocolate

Ice cream is one of Macy's favorite foods, ha ha!

Day 25- Washington, DC

We had a wonderful day touring the National Mall in DC.

Here are the sites in order of history, first the memorial to the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The Washington Monument.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial.

The Lincoln Memorial.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial (with his dog, Fala).

And his wife, Eleanor.  She was the longest serving first lady, as well as a diplomat.

The World War II Memorial.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

I am grateful to be a citizen of The United States of America.  I'm grateful for our forefathers who founded this great nation under God, for the Presidents, Soldiers, and Citizens who fought and gave all so we can have a free land.  Freedom isn't free, and I'm so thankful for those who paid the price for my freedom.

And in my husband's words (who is Canadian): 

An emotional day reflecting on the past, present, and future of this great country.

From those whose genius and sacrifice helped forge a new nation and new form of governance, to those who sacrificed to push it closer to those ideals when it fell tragically short, to those who sacrificed to protect it, it really is an overwhelming place.
