I hosted our last Book Club of the year and
I will really miss these ladies!
Itzel, Annick, Rhonda, me, Donna (visiting from Utah!), and Rita.

I took my camera to the Clark's farewell party for us, but of course I didn't take any pictures.  Rhonda did and she shared some cute ones with me.  I'm so grateful for all the friends we've made in all the places we've lived!
Me, Joanne, Rhonda.

Rhonda and the gorgeous little Evelyn.

Sweet Sophie.

Sisters- Molly & Emma (future daughters-in-law I hope!).

.
Cheese!
(Or should I say chili cheese, since her face is covered in delicious chili!)

I've got my eye on you!

Purplicious!

Ali fell asleep the evening of her birthday before Noé and I were home from the dance studio.  So we celebrated the next day before school/work.  Ali was ready to dig in as soon as the candles were blown out.

Am I in trouble?

Breakfast of champions!

How about have a slice Ali, instead of the whole cake!

The next day we took her to the mall to get her pictures taken and to buy her some much needed clothes and shoes.

We sure love this precious purplicious princess!!

Tulip Festival

We love going down to Dows Lake to see the beautiful tulilps each year!

We also love to see the sweet tree blossoms.

Len took this "double take" of me when I was walking back from taking pics of some tree blossoms.

Cute little goose family, I wonder if they're silly like us?

Sweet little message in sidewalk chalk.

Noé took this picture of us holding hands while driving home (don't worry Len's a good driver!).

United Nations

Len went back to New York for a week and a half, to represent Canada at the United Nations.

Leonard said, "These words of hope are 2,800 years old.
Hope, as they say, springs eternal.
It's up to us to make them come true."

This time the topic was Indigenous Affairs.  It is so sad what has happened and continues to happen to many indigenous people.  There are thousands of missing and murdered aboriginal women and girls.  It is truly heartbreaking.

On a happier note, his friend Gary was able to meet up with him on the weekend and they explored the city.  Gary was disappointed that Len wasn't dressed like a mountie, nor riding a moose, ha!

Gary said, "We sit as tourists enjoying the splendor, barely aware that the literal fate and fortunes of millions upon millions of our fellow human family are determined daily behind those doors and beneath those pillars. What's worse is that such fates are mostly determined in ways which utterly fail to take the humanity of each into account, but only concern the bottom line. Money is our God, and the love of that God is the root of much evil. But I am a tourist..."

St. Patrick's Cathedral offered them more solace.

Mother's Day

Museum of Nature

For Hiram's date, Len & I took him to visit the Museum of Nature, to have lunch at the Pita Pit, and to buy a new toy at Toys 'R Us for not having toilet accidents.  We asked him what he'd like to take a picture with and he wanted the dinosaur eggs...

...they are a lot less intimidating than the dinosaurs!

Art Vernissage

I had to take Noé to her dance class, so Len took the rest of the kids up to the school for the Art Vernissage.  Kaleb and Noé missed their class's main art project while the were at U of O,

but here are their 3-D names.

Gavin tried his hand at painting like Piet Mondrian.

He also sculpted Cole & his Scythe from Lego Ninjago.

Teague made this cute little monster,

his handprint art,

and these cute photo flowers.

Hiram and Ali liked the art,

however, they may have liked the nearby park more.

Little Miss Independent...

on her way...

and there she goes!

Papa Derry

Leonard's best friend, Jeff's dad (Lloyd) Papa Derry came to Ottawa for a quick 24-hour trip.  We were lucky and got to have him over for dinner while he was in town.  We love visits from friends and family!

University of Ottawa

The city of Ottawa offers a great program to its 8th grade students, they can attend 1 of 3 universities for a week!  There are a limited number of spaces, so Kaleb & Noé had to apply and luckily they both were accepted!

Kaleb spent the week studying Physics, while Noé studied Drama.  They were also there with friends from school, our ward, and our stake- Zaynab, Shannon, Harry, Grace, and Lucy.  They didn't have class with any of their friends, but they were able to meet for lunch each day.  After the week was over, Kaleb & Noé had a hard time going back to Elementary School.  They're ready to skip High School and go straight to College!

Crazy Catch-up

So, I desperately need to play catch-up on this blog.  I have our adventures in Ottawa from May and June to record, our adventures in London from July, and now our adventures in Mumbai from now until the next 2-3 years!  (Plus, I'm having a hard time in Mumbai, so I need a distraction!)  The problem is that my May and June photos are now on CDs that will be coming in our sea shipment in a couple of months, ugh!  I do have some photos now though- some from our spare camera, some that others have shared on facebook, and all of the 2,222 pictures currently on my camera (how crazy is that number?).  So, I will start catching up on this blog, but it will just be in a crazy, random order  :)!

First Impressions

My mom sent Noé and I an email, here is our conversation:

Mom-  I hope you get internet soon.  I'm going crazy wanting to hear from you.  How was the flight to India?  How do you like your apt?  Is it small?  Is it big?  Is it pretty?  What's your first impression of India?  Tell me all about it.

Love you all so much!!!!!
Gram

Me-  We finally have internet and phone!!  I want to call you so bad, but I want to wait until Len gets home from work to see what plan we have so I know how long I can talk :).  The flight to India was better than the flight to England, (I didn't get puked on by Ali).  The kids weren't perfect, but for being on a plane for 9 hours I don't think they were that bad either.  A couple of people might have felt differently, but some people are always grumpy.  One of the flight attendants told me she thought it was wonderful that we had 6 kids and that they were all lovely.  She looked Indian and was very pretty and kind.  We all had the posh "bed" seats, so that was pretty cool.  It was arranged a bit better on British Airways than it was on Canada Air, so that was good too.  Our apartment is nice.  It's big, with lots of cupboard storage, but not lots of "big" storage.  We'll see how we can make everything fit when our shipments arrive  :).  It's pretty, lots of marble, lots of glass, lots of wood, and lots of cream paint.  We were going to have them paint colors in the bedrooms, but then decided to go neutral in case we wanted to re-arrange bedrooms later on.  We didn't get our neutral colors to them soon enough, so all of the bedrooms, bathrooms, halls are a not-so-nice cream, but we can live with it.  Luckily, they were able to paint the main living/dining room in the taupe we wanted so it looks nicer.  We have a lot of furniture too, so everyone can sit at the table together and around the TV, etc.  I want to re-arrange some of it, I just need time to do it.  We're going to make the front office room into the kids' playroom once all of our stuff comes.

First impressions have been all over the map.  The airport is absolutely gorgeous, so it was very welcoming.  Once we got outside, we were hugged by a hot, wet blanket with the humidity.  We had 3 cars to drive us all home, so I was with Kaleb, Noe, and Ali.  We saw pretty palm trees and water, tall buildings, and lots of shacks.  Our apartment building wasn't what I was expecting, nor it's neighborhood, but our actual apartment is nice.  We explored the playground, pool, gym area yesterday and it is very nice.  The pool looks like it's from a resort, I just hope we can swim laps in it on a regular basis.  We also met our next door neighbors in the elevator yesterday, an older Indian couple, they were very friendly.  Our elevators have "operators" in them to push all the buttons for us, I think it's kind of annoying, since there are 6 elevators, but domestic staff use 3 of them, so that leaves 3 for all the rest of us (38 floors and about 4-8 apartments per floor), however only 2 ever work at a time and they are small, put in the operator and his chair and that takes up 1/4 of the elevator, we've been crammed in with lots of others riding up and down.  I guess we'll get used to it.  We did venture out to the mall next door last night (just Len and I) to check it out.  We can go a back way through parking lots, so we're never crossing an actual street.  We still have to walk through a small neighborhood portion though.  It reminds me a lot of Taiwan.  Tiny little shops, with tarps over the sidewalk just full of people.  The mall was nice, but I felt so much like an outsider I felt very emotional.  I did see a couple of other "white" faces, but not many.  I think I'll have an emotional roller coaster the entire time we're here.  We can see big buildings that all look like they're falling apart (because of the weather), blue tarp covered homes, a huge green field (not sure what it is), and the ocean from our windows.  The car horns are honking non-stop.  It is driving me crazy!!  They might stop for one hour in the night, but then you can hear all the construction jackhammers and drills more clearly.  I've wanted to use my ear plugs to help me sleep, but then I don't because I want to hear the kids if they need me in the night.  Hiram and Ali were up until about 1:30 in the morning, then Ali still woke up a couple times in the night.  Hopefully, we'll get over the jet-lag soon.  We're 12 1/2 hours different from you, 9 1/2 from Ottawa, and just 4 1/2 from London, so hopefully by day 5 we'll be more on schedule.  Oh yeah, we could hear the Muslim call to prayer at 3 different times yesterday.  It's a soft song that sounds pretty.  Whenever I hear it I want to say my own prayers too.  I will surely need them!

Love you and everyone SO much!!
