Macy's #1

This year instead of birthday parties (we alternate years) we'll be taking each child out on a date with Mom and Dad.  However, since it was Macy's FIRST birthday, we took all of her brothers and sisters along too.  We had dinner at Pizza Hut...

...then went home for cake!

Happy Birthday to you!

Happy Birthday dear Macy!

From our silly crew!

Macy was mesmerized with the candle flame.

However, she didn't want to eat any of it (and all I offered her was some frosting).  I'm no longer sure that she's my daughter, as I could live off buttercream.

She opened her cards from us and her grandparents...

...as well as her birthday present.

She got these darling Beanie-Boos.

Happy Birthday Macy!  We hope you have a wonderful year!

Macy @ 12 months

I blinked and Macy turned one year old!!

At 12 months, Macy rolls everywhere!  She can't crawl yet, but she can get anywhere she wants to go by rolling.  She's become a night owl and loves to have lively conversations with me after her siblings are in bed and she just laughs her head off.  She weaned herself a few weeks before her birthday (so sad for me), but she doesn't want to drink anything now from a bottle, sippy cup, or regular cup.  She's still a good eater, and her pureed foods are keeping her hydrated.  She gives the best hugs and kisses.  We all just adore her!

Thank you Macy for coming to our family!  We love you so much!

Lone Star Texas Grill

We started reading the Book of Mormon again on July 9, 2018.  In the fall, we decided we wanted to finish reading it before the year ended, so we went from reading one chapter a day to about five pages a day.  Unfortunately, we didn't quite reach our goal, as we read from our Christmas book from December 1st-25th.  However, we did finish on January 5, 2019.  To celebrate reaching our goal, we had lunch at Lone Star.

I love reading the scriptures with my family and love that we are now reading the New Testament together.

Lost Treasures

The insurance company that dealt with our shipment from India threw away most of the moldy items.  However, they saved 10 boxes of more personal items (mainly paperwork and pictures that were in our file cabinets) for us to go through.  The smell was horrendous, and all we ended up keeping were the scrapbook pages I had made (that are now in new albums) and yearbooks (that are now in sealed plastic bags).  We took pictures of a few random things we wanted to remember.

The birth announcement my mother painted and hung in my baby nursery.

The birth announcement Leonard's mother mailed out to extended family.

My Who's Who Among American High School Students book.

My key-chain collection.

My high school cap with honor cords and sash (I did keep the tassel though).

My high school diploma.

Leonard's and my university diplomas.
(Well I kept the diplomas, but their cute cases had to be pitched.)

Mementos from the first time I met Leonard (spider-sniffing) and from our first date (Buddy Ball).  The poem says,
"Spider sniffing was the night we met,
A cold, dark night I'll never forget.
Although you probably don't remember my name,
That's alright--I'm still fair game!
Just want you to know I think you're great,
Thanks for being my Buddy Ball date."

We threw away HUNDREDS of letters we wrote to each other during the four years of our courtship (for two of those years, Leonard was in France on his mission).  It was really sad.  We may not have the time to write each other letters very often anymore, but the sentiment we have for one another is even stronger.

My bridal shower "hat" of gift bows.

Our license plate collection that I envisioned putting up in our garage someday.  It kind of fizzled as we didn't have a car in England, we couldn't keep our diplomatic license plates in Taiwan, we didn't have a car in India, and we never had one from Leonard's native Alberta, but still.

A beautiful picture my friend painted for Ali as a baby.  It matched her bedroom decor perfectly!

The roll up case I painted for my paint brushes back in my tole painting days.

Penelope Jane (PJ), that I made when I worked at the Scrapbook Patch.  She reminds me of Ali.  I had enough scrapbooking supplies to last my lifetime, but alas they are now at the city dump or being recycled.

I'm reminded of the scriptures Matthew 6:19-21:

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

My greatest treasures (my husband and children) survived the "India mold fiasco" and they are the treasures I want to take with me to heaven.

Holiday Shelf

When I completed my holiday shelf for January, I completed the whole year.  After losing so much of our personal effects from our move back from India, it was therapy for me to create this little happy spot each month.

New Year's Eve

Kaleb and NoƩ went to their friend's house to ring in the New Year, while these four raced on the Wii.

Such concentration.

Such happy smiles.

Later in the evening, our friends the Montminys came over.

Macy was the only one that didn't make it to midnight.

Thanks Talia, Rita, Ruby, and Liam for seeing in the new year with us!
(Look at the clock, the ball had just dropped in Times Square.)

We celebrated this season at school with Kaleb's band concert, Ali's kindergarten concert and potluck, and the kids each had their individual class parties.  We celebrated this season with friends at Len's work, Jen's book club, at the Wilde's, and at the Martin's.  I did a blog post about all the ways we celebrated this season at church.  I did a few blog posts about how we celebrated this season at home.  It's always sad to see this season go, but I was exhausted and needed a break ;).
