Before the year Kaleb and Noé graduated from high school ended, I wanted to take a few more pictures of them with their extracurricular gear and their minimum wage jobs.
Extracurriculars
Noé got to participate in her high school's first ever cheer team for two years.
This is her senior year uniform they got for competitions.
This is her junior year uniform they wore when they cheered for the basketball team.
This is her sweat suit to wear to school in the cold winter months.
Captain was on her arm (she was team captain!), while SPK cheer was on her top and bottoms.
Her big bow was my favorite!
Yes, I may have lived a little vicariously through her remembering all the fun I had cheering in high school!
Kaleb started band in 7th grade. He can play many instruments, but the tenor saxophone is the one he picked to call his own.
While we lived in Las Vegas he sold a truckload of candy bars to buy this tuxedo to wear in the concert band there.
He looks so snazzy!
When we moved back to Canada he had a concert in 11th grade that coincided with our last Family Fun Night at our old elementary school. Kaleb told us to go to the Family Fun Night, then we'd attend his 12th grade concert. Of course, none of us knew then it would be cancelled from covid! I didn't get pictures that night, but he looked so handsome in his black shirt and white tie, and he also wore black pants and a fedora.
Kaleb has a smooth sound!
In 12th grade, they also got these band shirts to wear at school assemblies.
I love that he loves music so much! The house will be a lot quieter when he leaves the nest and I will miss his music!
Minimum Wage
I remind my kids how lucky they are that minimum wage in Ontario is $14 an hour, when I was their age I earned $4.25 an hour and after I earned my bachelor's degree I was making $6.75 an hour. Gotta love inflation!
After they turned 16 the hunt was on for an after school job.
Noé landed one first at the Mandarin restaurant as a hostess.
After a few more months of job hunting, Kaleb landed his first job at the Yalla Yalla restaurant.
Unfortunately, a few months later when we moved to our new home we were struggling getting them to school each day in our old neighborhood and driving them to both of their jobs in our old neighborhood while getting the little kids from the school bus in our new neighborhood proved impossible, so they had to give their notice.
Now the hunt was on again to find new jobs closer to our new home.
This time Kaleb landed a job first as Pita Pit called him back from when he was job hunting before he got hired at Yalla Yalla.
First jobs in the food industry are so memorable!
Noé landed her high school dream job working at the Aub44 clothing store in the mall.
Unfortunately, the first covid lock down meant she got laid off.
Fortunately, she quickly got another job from KFC/Taco Bell as she also applied there before she got hired at the mall.
My grandparents are from Kentucky, so I told her that she needs to keep her hat and shirt forever, they are classic!
Time moves so quickly, I just needed to pause and remember these days.
