Wat Cha Long

Our final destination was to the HUGE Wat Cha Long Temple Complex. There were so many temples here, I lost count! It really is a must see while visiting Phuket. Here are some of our favorites. I just think the Thai architecture is fascinating.

While I was walking through a grassy area I tripped over a big tree root, and ripped off most of my big toe nail. Now that I've injured both of my feet, I've got to be more careful or I'll end up in a wheelchair- ha! There was also a long row of souveneir shops. We got a few things, and then had some ice cream and ice cold water to cool us off on this hot fall day.

Fu Long Gong

Our next stop was to the Chinese Temple of Fu Long Gong. Warning: Beware of dragons!

The Reclining Buddha

Today we hired a driver to go and explore 3 of the island's different religious temples. Our first stop was to the Reclining Buddha Temple.

Beach Play on the first day of Fall

This morning we all went down to play on the beach again. When we got there, their were 2 elephants this time. They must enjoy the beach life as much as we do! It was so cool to pet the little baby. His hide was covered in tiny coarse hairs- it felt like petting steel wool. We had fun playing in the sand, splashing in the surf, and just enjoyed the sunshine.

We then went up to the pools to swim some more, and we even ate hamburgers poolside for lunch. This evening everyone went to the owners party, but my morning (all day) sickness kicked in so I stayed home and rested.

Gateway to Paradise

On the 20th we flew from Taipei to Bangkok and then on to Phuket. We arrived in the evening and went straight to the Marriott. We unpacked, got settled in to our home for the next week, and just relaxed. The next day Papa, Len, & Kris went grocery shopping, so mom & I took the kids down to the pool to swim. When they got back Gavin was napping, and Papa wanted to rest too (he just had hernia surgery 2 weeks before), so the rest of us headed out to check out Mai Khao beach. I can now say I've been in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans!

A model of the traditional Thai home.

There was a coconut that kept getting pushed around each time the waves came rolling in. He kind of reminded me of Wilson from "Castaway."

I was snapping pictures of the beautiful scenery when I turned around and was nose to trunk with a man and his baby elephant. I couldn't believe it! They had just come out to take a swim.

It's not everyday you get to play with an elephant at the beach!

Never mind my wind-blown hair, I'm in heaven with my honey.

I Passed the Test!

For the past 9 months, I've had to take a test several times and unfortunately I kept failing. This morning I was up early (thanks to Typhoon Sinlaku) and decided to take it again. And guess what? I passed! You may have guessed by the picture below, that yes I am pregnant! It's very early on still, but even though I'm a shy person- I just can't keep a secret. Once I know something, I just have to share. Now it's on my blog for the whole world to know. Len and I are still in shock, but so excited. Kaleb and Noe are thrilled and Noe even told my news to my mom before I could (cute little stink). When I told Gavin there was a baby in Mommy's tummy he just shook his head and smiled, I guess he's still too little to understand. Besides the typhoon weekend we're having, it's also the Moon Festival so Len doesn't have to work on Monday, but neither does the Doctor. I'll call her on Tuesday to make my first appointment. Wish me luck!

*It's funny because earlier this week, Kristopher took the kids to their after school activities. He came home and told me that there was a rumor going around that I was expecting. He responded that if I was he was unaware of it. AND 2 friends from Leonard's office asked him the same thing, which he responded in the negative. My response to these stories is- how did they know before me? Am I glowing already- ha ha ha!

Until We Meet Again

My dad just called me to tell me that my grandmother passed away. I wanted to write a little tribute to her. I love you Grandma!

The top 2 lessons that come to mind when I think of my grandma are the top 2 lessons I think we all should learn and apply to life.

First, she taught me to love God and to have Faith in Him. We are of different denominations as I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and my grandmother has been a devout Catholic her entire life. Every time I visited her I would see her Bible on her side table open to the passages she had read that day. I also saw her Rosary beads that she would pray with daily. I went to Mass several times with her while I was growing up, but she went every single week. When it became physically impossible for her to attend Mass, she had a minister from her church come to her house each week to administer the eucharist to her (the sacrament in LDS terminology). My grandmother did not just study her religion though, she lived it by loving and serving others.

That brings me to the second lesson she taught me and that is to love your family with everything you have. My grandma was born to parents that were both previously married. Her dad's wife died early in their marriage. Her mother had 2 children with her first husband before he died. After her parents married they had 4 more children together. These 6 children (3 boys and 3 girls) were siblings, not half-siblings as society likes to call them today. My grandma was very close to them, as well as her nieces and nephews.

My grandmother married at a very tender age of 15 and had 11 children. When the youngest was 2 years old (and my grandma was only 37), my grandpa left her. My grandmother worked hard to keep her family together because she did not want her children to have to go to an orphanage. Through all of their struggles she never spoke badly of my grandpa and would chastise her children if she heard them doing so. She had such a forgiving heart and prayed for my grandpa's soul even after he passed away last year.

When I was born I was her 35th grandchild (of 43). Her first great-grandchild is only 3 months younger than me. His oldest child is older than mine, so my grandma became a great-great grandma before I even became a mother! In this Grand Matriarch's family there are no half's, step's, adopted, in-law's, or out-law's (exes) there is simply family. She taught that how you love someone is more important than what blood runs through their veins. As I am a product of divorce and blended families, I'm grateful for her example that my family is my family period. We may be non-traditional, but we know how to love each other.

I was telling my dad that even though I'm glad she's not suffering anymore, I'm so sad because I'll miss her so much through out the rest of my life. My dad told me he understands, but instead of seeing today as a sad day on earth we should see it as a happy day in heaven. I'm sure there's a happy celebration going on up there. My grandma always spoke so highly of her mother, and I'm sure her mother is with her now. I bet she's having a sweet reunion with all of her siblings too. I also think my Uncle Tom and my cousins Paul, JR, Amber, and Louie will be there to get a warm hug from grandma. I'll miss you grandma, but I know I'll see you again. I love you and thank you for everything you taught me.

Martyr's Shrine

We took Kris to the National Revolutionary Martyr's Shrine to see some Ming-style architecture. This memorial is a tribute to the fallen heroes of the Republic of China. While there we watched the changing of the guard too.

We were a little disappointed that the monkeys we heard shrieking in the trees wouldn't show their faces to us. But our family always enjoys going there, and Kris liked it too!
