It was our last day of vacation. We were just planning on driving from Jaipur back to Delhi and then flying from Delhi to Mumbai. The day before we had seen a little camels spot and asked our guide about it. He told us to check it out the next day. When we passed it again, we asked our driver to stop. We were just hoping to take some pictures of the camels from our van windows, but the camels' keepers negotiated with us for a ride. It sounded reasonable (although with all the expected tipping at the end we paid about double the price quoted us) and who knows when the opportunity to ride a camel will present itself again.
This was actually quite terrifying! Camels backs are far from the ground and their backs weren't made for saddles (in my opinion). We climbed the stairs up to the platform and got settled in our seats. As soon as our camel began his little walk though our saddle started slipping! The keeper ran to the other side and pulled on the rope to stabilize us. He then told us to hug the camel with our legs as hard as we could to keep us upright. For the whole rest of our walk I was just wanting it to be over!
The camels all had colorful blankets and yarn pom poms on them. They also had cool designs shaved into their fur.
Kaleb loved it even though he thought it was terrifying. Hiram said he was a little scared too.
I think camels are quite majestic. They are also quite stinky!
Noé liked riding the camel; Teague was scared and like riding the elephant much better; Gavin was also scared. Our kids are brave though to challenge their fears!
