Down Syndrome Awareness Month

But it's exhausting being this cute!

October is Down syndrome awareness month. This little cutie sure rocks her extra chromosome and we are so thankful she is in our family. The life expectancy of a person with Down syndrome is 60. Back in 1983, it was only 25. Back in 1983 most people with Down syndrome lived in institutions. By keeping children with DS out of institutions their life spans increased by 35 years!! Why? Because their lives became valued. The sad side of the coin is that the majority of babies with Down syndrome that receive their diagnosis in utero are terminated. THE MAJORITY!! This absolutely breaks my heart and makes me fear what's the next thing society finds unacceptable and thinks it's better to terminate anyone with (fill in the blank) instead of letting them live. If you are pregnant and get a diagnosis of Down syndrome for your baby, please call me! I would love to share with you all the wonderful things you have in store!

I think if Macy could speak for herself she would say that we are more alike than different, and please see ME not just my Down syndrome.
