We had Tuesday excursions to the indoor Splash pool and the outdoor Bearbrook pool, but no cameras are allowed there, so here we are on our 9th summer family fun day. We drove out to South Glengarry county to explore the old church ruins of St. Raphael.
St. Raphael's was one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches built in English-speaking Canada. Construction began back in 1815. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed it in 1970. All of the masonry still stands!
The bell was melted from the heat of the fire.
The grounds have an expansive cemetery that we reverently walked through.
This shot is so peaceful to me, and yet it draws me to follow that curving road into the distance.
This old headstone broke my heart. It bears this inscription:
In the name of God
Beneath this monument lieth the mortal remains of Mary Watson
Spouse of Lieut. Angus Donell
This sweet amiable lady departed this life on the 23 day of Dec 1828
aged 31 years & 5 months
She has left a disconsolate husband
and 5 children to deplore her loss
Her warm heart...
the ground covers the end of the last sentence.
I am just so sad that her husband and young children had to live their lives without their loving wife and mother. I am sure they have long since enjoyed a splendid reunion in heaven!

My sweet husband and our 7 kiddos is so beautiful to me!
This farm lies to the southwest of the church entrance and is so inviting.
The sky was so big and bright here it took my breath away!
